Ireland's Latest Improvised Explosive Device

The term IED was first used in the early 1970s by the British Army when the IRA made bombs from fertiliser and Semtex.Using the first timers in bombs decades back, skills evolved to fit timing mechanisms and methods of detonation, command wire, radio control, radar with light initiation and anti-handling mechanisms. The bomb that blew up the Grand Hotel in Brighton was aimed at assassinating the entire British Cabinet of Thatcher, was the first to incorporate a video recorder's long-delay timer. Radio-controlled devices were used from model aircraft. Irish republicans also use car parking timers. Under-vehicle IEDs, were fitted with a novel and deadly booby-trap devices, like the mercury-tilt switch.
IED's were also common in Vietnam where the Vietcong made them from unexploded American ordinance. In Afghanistan today in the battle for Marjah, the coalition has 15,000 soldiers ringing an estimated 400 Taliban fighters. It first appears like no contest. Still the advance is so slow and bloody because the Taliban have ringed the town with IEDs in what is known as the “belt of death”.

The IED's now rival the Kalashnikov as the freedom fighters weapon of the 21st century. It can be assembled by villagers in a shed  and it enables them to take on the invader, who have huge numbers and massive fire power, just as the US industrial war complex Stinger surface-to-air missiles, enabled the Mujaheddin to neutralize Soviet air power in the 1980s..
“The operational word of IED is ‘improvised’. Constantly changing expertise that stays ahead of the game. The Pentagon on the other hand has spent $15.5 billion and employed the top scientific minds in an effort to come up with the best ways to detect and survive IEDs. Its scientists and engineers for the last three years have been working round the clock on robots, lasers, chemical detectors and even specially trained bees.
In 2003 there were 81 recorded IED incidents in Afghanistan. Last year there were 8,159. In Helmand soldiers vomit before they go on patrol, because the chances of being hit are so high. In September 2003 in Iraq, there were 100 explosions a month,  rising to 2,000. US central command in July 2003, asked the Pentagon for a “Manhattan project-like” approach. The Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organisation (Jieddo) now has more than 3,000 staff and funds of $4 billion a year.
The man in charge is General Michael Oates, a four-tour veteran of Iraq. “The war against IEDs is very personal,” he says. “I’ve lost many of my men to them and I’ve been in proximity many times. A vehicle behind you blowing up, a vehicle in front, your own vehicle getting hit ... My driver killed. Virtually every soldier I know has seen an IED or been close to one or knows someone who died.”
About half of all American soldiers who died in Iraq were killed by IEDs, while in Afghanistan the figure is now about two-thirds. But insurgents quickly learnt that they inflict more than just death and injury. The IED is a tactical weapon in that people not only use it to maim and kill but also a strategic weapon in that it impacts the will of countries that invade. The Netherlands for example has just voted to withdraw its 2,000 troops in Afghanistan.
Sergeant John Stricklett did four tours in Baghdad, often taking the “long walk” to defuse a bomb. He can operate the Talon robot from a laptop in a case, studying the area from its four mounted cameras and manoeuvring its claw-like hands.“It becomes my hands and disassembles the bomb, while I can stay at remote distance,” he says. “On my last deployment I lost three robots. If I’d walked down that street instead, they would have got me.”At $150,000 a time, the robots are expensive, but cheap in comparison with the lives they save. When robots don’t work, the technicians have to put on a blastresistant suit and a transparent face shield, resembling an astronaut’s mask.
The lunacy of amassing all this money and brainpower to invade and try to defeat a bunch of Afghan farmers, like the Vietnamese rice farmers before them in Vietnam, who actually defeated the Americans seems to be lost on the invaders. Meanwhile the locals carry on assembling bombs in their mud houses, using fertiliser packed in jugs leaving the modern expert to scratch his head and conclude, “Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to defeat,” he says. “As Americans we like technology, we like complicated things. That’s what I’ve been trying to get my head round, how to think more simply.”
A research laboratory in Los Alamos has found that honeybees because of their acute sense of smell can be trained within 20 minutes to recognise a particular chemical. The small hairs that bees use to detect pollen can be used to detect any scent, prompting them to stick out their tongues. It proposes putting bees in a detecting machine with a monitor that registers a signal when the bees stick out their tongues. But the logistics of carrying bees inside army vehicles moving around Afghanistan have proved unworkable.
The main testing site for the counter-IED programme is an island in Chesapeake Bay. About 100 yards away a copy of the latest Taliban IED is blown up and the screens all light up. As it explodes, the device sends out lethal fragments and explosive gases, and what we are doing is using X-ray imaging to capture this. The information enables a team to design better armour for army vehicles. Experts admit that, whatever his team comes up with, the farmers always seem to be one step ahead.
The army strengthened their Humvee from a 1.25-ton chassis to 2.5 tons. Then it built 20-ton MRAPs,  mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles with V-shaped hulls to deflect blasts. Now all of  those are being hit as the farmers adapted by using larger explosives.“You might argue, why don’t you just armour more,” says Oates. “But the problem is, you reach a crossover point where you can so protect yourself you can’t do your mission. We really want to stop farmers placing IEDs and we can’t do that if we’re inside vehicles so protected we can’t go outside.”
.The invaders try get into the minds of the insurgents. They sit in offices plastered with maps of Pakistan and Afghanistan and try to predict what future IEDs might look like. but the farmers keep come up with things never expected. They take something extremely simple and make it extremely complex, they are really creative. Old mobile phones, wires, circuit boards, 7-Up cans, toy cars, walkie-talkies, key rings, handheld electronic games. The IED petting zoo, otherwise known as the ‘petting zoo of death’.
The most common IEDs in Afghanistan are simple pressure plates, two wooden blocks with metallic strips inside that make contact when a person or vehicle goes over them, attached to a command wire that sets off the explosion. Pressure plates so intricate that the farmers are now budding engineers. A wire with several pressure plates along it, is what’s known as a Christmas tree light.
For a while, insurgents were using wireless devices that could be triggered by punching a code into a cellphone as a convoy passed. When coalition forces started using jammers on their vehicles to block the phone signal, the farmers devised a new command-wire and pressure-plate IEDs. These are hard to detect because they use graphite for the connections to avoid being found by metal detectors, though this is expensive. The insurgents are also working on ways to defeat the jammers.
The farmers are not believed to have a centralised IED unit, and there is a lot of regional variation. But everyone under a certain regional commander will usually use the same design. The farmers are good at disguising IEDs in rubbish, potholes or craters from previous blasts. But for all the fancy technology, a high percentage of the IEDs found are spotted by soldiers noticing something doesn’t look right.
The money spent to counteract the farmers IED's is almost double the entire spending of the Afghan government. Not everyone agrees throwing all this money at the problem is the best way to go.Oates does not agree. “After you’ve survived one but clearly felt the effect, you know the feeling next time you go out, when you’re looking around all the time so much your neck hurts, waiting for the next,” he says. “Try and explain that to someone. That’s why we’re doing this.”The Afghan farmers like their Vietnamese rice farmer comrades don't agree either, neither do they bother to explain, their IED"s seems to be the only language the invaders listen to, as the Dutch parliament withdrawing 2,000 troops, wisely did yesterday.
Back in Ireland between 1970 and up to today in 2010, Irish republicans continue to detonate a staggering 20,000 IEDs on occupied Irish territory territory to date. Irish republican IED's are exclusively aimed at destroying economic infrastructure and killing or injuring those viewed to be instrumental in continuing British rule in occupied Ireland, not aimed at ordinary civilians, which is a war crime and counterproductive to the cause of liberation.

Recently the British establishment were badly advised that political prisoners were the soft underbelly of Irish resistance, quite the contrary, nothing could be futher from the truth. Improvised prison resistance, from the blanket protest, to the dirt protest to the deaths of 12 Hunger strikers relatively recently have been the most effective IED in Ireland. It is not a matter to be undertaken lightly or in an unmeasured or unorganized way but it is particularly explosive when used correctly with proper leadership on the outside among the people.

One of Ireland's leading republicans Padraig Pearse who was executed by the British declared; "They think that they have pacified Ireland. They think that they have purchased half of us and intimidated the other half. They think that they have foreseen everything, think that they have provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools! - they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace."
He could have replaced, Fenian dead with Fenian prisoners which has proven to be Ireland's most effective IED.  Ask any young Fenian in Lurgan or west Belfast today what Bobby Sands or Colin Duffy means to them. The newly named British police in occupied Ireland are about to learn exactly what they mean, as the latest foolish police target of IED's in Ireland will testify.

CON BITES

This is gripping. I was at Bankers Trust during this disaster. Those who put Greenspan in office want us all to be in shock and penury, so we'll work for next to nothing an hour, without a union. This collapse is perfect for them. It creates opportunity for capitalists. It destroys ordinary people! Ms. Borne truly was an outsider to Rubin, Summers, Geithner, Greenspan's world. They don't care about social cohesion even though meltdowns like this get Fascists elected and innocent intelligent people murdered. The voters are suckers, they have been sold out by their politicians and union leaders.

Ask any hedge fund manager, derivatives trader, or broker if he or she would take the risk positions, if they were dealing with their own money and I'd bet you would get a "no way in hell" response from the majority... It's a catch 22 because they have let it get too far. With so much "funny money" in the system to reduce liquidity in the "gambling" piece is next to impossible, without creating a prohibitively expensive regulatory framework. This would have the impact of negative economic growth for an extended period. Politicians can't afford that, citizens don't really want to swallow that pill, and finance can't allow that or go under because the models would break, if regulation came into play in anything other than net profits out of dark markets... They chose not to restructure the market in 2007 and the failure to let companies fail, will only hurt an awful lot more in the coming decade.

"Morality is, and always be on the side of the heaviest artillery." Let me put it another way.. "The golden rule is..those who have the gold, rule". Are you, getting "the drift", here...... What any of us think, or say is meaningless to the "powerful people" who run this country. If you or I, individually try to do anything about it, we would be crushed like a grape under their feet.. The only time people, (masses) will listen , or are moved to action, is when one of three things happen. One when their "gas tanks are empty, and they have no more fuel, or when their stomachs are empty and they have no food, or both...Until then, "the peasants", will eat "the bread", from "the dough" that those in power, will prepare for us".... Whether you are a child, or Greenspan, remember that, "whoever works with honey, will at some point lick their fingers'.... (Honey=trillions of dollars.) If this were the French revolution, Greenspan, Rubin and company, would loose their heads....and that's the way it should be, why? because if it was you or I who did what they did, my friend, our heads would have be in a basket, a long time ago..

Why has media in general has not picked up on this problem. The people who were responsible for market collapse are still in charge of our financial systems now. The underlying problem isn't being addressed. There are trillions of dollars in CDOs and other derivatives held by banks that can't be priced because of insufficient information about the assets' values. Hence no buyers and no sellers currently.

As for the banks, unfortunately the reality is that many of them are insolvent in any real market value sense, for the reasons that Born warned about--a hugely leveraged, 600 TRILLION dollar shadow financial system. The reason the big banks are able to declare profits and pay fat bonuses, is because the politicians allowed them to lie about the value of these toxic assets, which in reality are worth around 25 cents on a dollar. The bank lobby has that kind of pull with elected representatives.

It is too late to take back governments worldwide from the special interest groups, corporations and their elected accomplices that have placed our world in such peril. For the sake of the billions of people that inhabit this planet, the first lesson of these experiences is our present system has in built collapse, it simply doesn't work long term for 99 per cent of the planets population.

Richard Head Sailing in a Dangerous Anglo-Irish Sea

Mad Dogs and Englishmen in the Midday Irish Rain

TCDAVID3BULLETIN..EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM HEADING FOR NORTHERN IRELAND AND THE ANGLO IRISH SEA..AT 10 AM RMT..THE GOVERNMENT IN EXILE OF ROCKALL HAS ISSUED A STORM WARNING FOR PROVISIONAL IRELAND.A STORM WATCH AND GALES WARNING REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE NORTH EAST PENINSULA OF PROVISIONAL IRELAND FROM THE BORDER OF THE FREE STATE WEEPUBLIC TO THE SCOTTISH WEEPUBLIC..INCLUDING NEWRY.

Newry is a bit of a dump really. The beach is dirty but my women
usually want to stretch their legs after we pass the mouth of the Lagan and I usually have to get my bilge pump checked too. Mind you Newry was a lovely place once upon at time, when most of the demolition was completed.

Originally built by rich princes from Holland, who used it to import their merchandise and distribute it, they also used it for a clean weekend getaway where they built some beautiful houses out the Belfast Road. Now its very rundown, when I wander through the market, the women have all gone to the Chapel and the men gone to the pub or the local shebeen clubs.

There always seems to be a bloke following behind us after we arrive. He's usually got a dog on a piece of string. A very badly behaved beast usually I must say and a very dirty piece of string. I normally ask him in my best Anglo-Irish, if he knows anything about proper dogs and leads. They usually look puzzled so I bark like a bull terrier and flap my head about. They usually mutter something about mad dogs and Englishmen in the midday rain.

Sometimes a crowd gathers. 'Eirigi' says someone, and off we go through the market past a lot of run down houses, we come to a big shebeen. It's full of Neucks drinking the peoples whiskey, watching the BBC, shouting and singing on a stage in the centre. I tell them there's been a misunderstanding. My women and I have come to have a relationship with the natives, get to know them better, for a small fee.Thats when the fighting starts. Thats when you need the British Police. You can check it out for yourselves below this time.

ASSASSINS WITH IRISH PASSPORTS FILMED AT PALESTINIAN MURDER SCENE

Link to film of Assassins at Murder Scene

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that five Irish passports were used by suspects in the killing of a Hamas official in Dubai.

The Israeli ambassador to Ireland has said he had no knowledge of the use of Irish passports seized in Dubai.

Zion Evrony released a short statement following a meeting at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Hamas official Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was murdered while staying in a hotel in the UAE by a group of assassins travelling on Irish and British passports.

The chief of police in Dubai said he is 99% sure that Israel was responsible for last month's assassination of a leading Hamas official.

Police chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim told The National newspaper that their 'investigations reveal that Mossad is involved in the murder of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin said that the incident was very serious and had put the security of Irish citizens at risk.Mr Martin said he did not know whether the Israeli secret service, Mossad, had been involved, but he had serious concerns about the issue.

Passports in the names of six British commoners and five Irish citizenss were among identity papers revealed by Dubai police who were hunting the hit squad, which killed Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.

Former British Liberal Democrat leader Menzies Campbell said Israeli involvement would be 'a serious violation of trust between nations'.

He added: 'Given the current speculation, the Israeli government has some explaining to do and the ambassador should be summoned to the Foreign Office to do so in double-quick time.'

The latest latest violation of Irish sovereignty comes just after an attack by Israel An Israeli on an Irish army colonel, Des Travers, from the UN team that investigated the Israeli war on Gaza. The Jerusalem Centre for Public Affairs (JCPA), led by Israel’s former ambassador to the U N, Dore Gold, classified Col Travers as “an individual who is not qualified to take part in any serious fact-finding mission” and demanded the UN not to use his services in future.

A month previous to that the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs was refused permission to visit Gaza in occupied Palestine to see for himself conditions on the ground. Under International law, Israel has no right whatsoever to deny any Irish minister a visit to Palestine to see first-hand the humanitarian crisis that has been created by their war crimes.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh a member of Leinster House Parliament in Ireland, said recently said it is high time that a hard line is taken on the issue. He declared Israel a “rogue, racist and belligerent state”. He said that no Irish minister “with a scintilla of backbone” should allow matters to rest here.

“I am calling on Minister Mícheál Martin to take a stand. It is high time that a hard line is taken on the issue of Israel, to stand out among European and world leaders and to stand up for the people of Palestine".

“He must demand access and make every effort to get to Gaza and Palestine despite what the Israeli authorities say. If the Israeli authorities refuse access again, diplomatic relations should immediately be broken off and the Israeli ambassador sent home.

“He has to make Israel understand that there are consequences for their actions. He must push for immediate action at European level. A start could be made by demanding an end to the special trade relationship that exists between the European Union and Israel.

“Meekly walking away from a major diplomatic insult without a response is tantamount to conniving and colluding in the abuse of the Palestinian people. It cannot and must not be allowed to happen.”

This latest scandal now endangers the lives of all Irish passport holders, who would formerly would not have been regarded, as enemies of Palestinian freedom.

Why British Police Can Go to Hell in Ireland

The phrase scientia potentia est is Latin. In English it means "For also knowledge itself is power" as stated originally by Francis Bacon in 1597. In modern times it is often stated  as "knowledge is power."  This phrase is used by the British and their unofficial media, primarily the BBC, as a basis for their Official Secrets Act, guarding their system of monarchy and privileged class system, as justification for withholding knowledge, that can deliver commoners some form of freedom, threatening their masters.

In Ireland as a result of a 'Surrender Agreement', agreed primarily by Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness  two former Irish catholic republican leaders, the British Intelligence services are now allowed an expanded role to operate and broadcast via their broadcast service the BBC in all parts of Ireland, including the former free state. The lengthy process, involved the British negotiating up, as all professional negotiators do. The hapless Adams and McGuinness on the other hand, walking away with their tails between their legs, with less freedom for Irish people after the latest phase of 40 years of struggle by Irish freedom fighters, than the island had to begin with.

It is possible that Francis Bacon was also referring to extracts from that best known book of the Roman Empire, officially sanctioned as, proverbs: 24:5: "A wise man has great power, and a man of knowledge increases strength." Other references to this phrase, can be found in Greek philosophy, simply stated - if the world exists as the result of dialectic consciousness, then information control, can be used to directly manipulate reality.

Under the same recent 'Surrender Agreement', MI5 who recently built a new state-of-the-art headquarters inside the British Army’s Palace Barracks in Belfast, the largest outside their main headquarters in England, where they will co-ordinate intelligence,  passed from their subordinates the RUC/PSNI, staffed at officer level by their own MI5 agents.  This ensures that the police ombudsman and local superficial policing boards, cannot investigate British spying and intelligence gathering in Ireland.

MI5 is meant to be the ‘domestic’ wing of British Intelligence Services but is now operating in all of Ireland, which as a result of the agreement, is now regarded officially as, "John Bull's Other Island".  Neither is it's activities, confined to gathering intelligence. MI5's activities were best illustrated in Ireland by the central role its agents played in the murder of 33 ordinary people in its Dublin/Monaghan bombings.

The number of people currently working for MI5 in Ireland as paid agents is  again a 'British Official Secret Secret' but it numbers at least several thousand, including their journalists. There were seventy ethical journalists assassinated worldwide in 2009 as a result of publishing such 'secrets' online , making it the worst year since records began, the Committee to Protect Journalists says.

Below is a link to what happened to a witness of Ireland's new policing arrangements. Colin Duffy's two friends, a distinguished human rights lawyer Rosemary Nelson was blown in half by a car bomb outside her home in Lurgan, the other Sam Marshall in a separate incident was shot in the head, as he lay injured on the ground from previous gunfire.

Colin Duffy is in prison for a long time now without trial, under Ireland's new form of internment. Colin's Duffy's crime is that he knows too much and seen too much, first hand of what exactly the new British policing arrangements in Ireland mean. Its a taste of things to come, for those brave enough to challenge the injustices of British policing in occupied Ireland. His treatment is precisely the same, as previous attempts by the British, to discredit and criminalize Bobby Sands and the 11 other recent prisoners who died on hunger strike as political prisoners. Dead, imprisoned and discredited witnesses, have always been the modus operandi of perfidious Albion in Ireland.

People who bear witness in a forthright manner, to the truth and reality of policing in Ireland, post the Surrender Process, are either assassinated, imprisoned, discredited, threatened or blackmailed in various attempts to silence them. The process is sanitized by their agent embedded media spin doctors, calling their murderers security forces or the Surrender Process a peace process. The alternative media of the people of no property in Ireland, who tell it like it really is, are censored in a host of manipulative ways and challenged by their embedded 'official' politicians also given a platform in "their mainstream media".

The voices of the witnesses need your help to get the truth out, before they too are silenced. Re-tweet it, share it on Facebook, share it with your friends, ask them to pass it on. Real peace will not happen in Ireland without justice and a genuine people's police force of the people, for justice. Unfortunately, there is no easier softer way, there are no short cuts to genuine peace with justice. The struggle will eventually make those voices strong. The spirit of freedom that Bobby Sands referred to in Ireland is too strong to be extinguished.

The British police and army have butchered too many people in Ireland, to ever be accepted or trusted by ordinary people. Check the reality out for yourself at this link and independently and verify it for yourself with trustworthy sources.
