100, 000+ Thousand March Against Austerity Ireland

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions, which organized the rallies, claimed more than 100,000 people attended, with 60,000 marching in Dublin. Demonstrators also protested in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford.
Union’s General Secretary David Begg suggested that the campaign against the debt will carry on until the European authorities honour the agreement to separate bank debt from sovereign debt.
"It would be fatal for people to believe this issue is now resolved and we can all move on," David Begg said. "At the onset of the crisis Ireland had one of the lowest debt to GDP ratios in Europe. The difference between then and now is due entirely to Ireland socializing bank debt at the behest of the ECB, to save the European banking system."
I've no confidence at all in the deal, it won't make any difference to ordinary people," said Alfie Murray who marching in Dublin with his 8-year-old grandson. "It's the next generation that'll shoulder the cost," he said.
Financial expert Marco Pietropoli explained that Irish per capita a far bigger bill than other countries. "Therefore they are suffering a great deal more.”
Pietropoli says that Ireland's situation is one of the most difficult in the EU and that Dublin's holding of the bloc's presidency isn't likely to make things any better.
“I don’t think the Irish with the presidency are necessarily going to be able to exert much pressure or much influence to actually change the situation in Europe, because the power remains with the Germans.”

Con O'Driscoll

When we got to Cooke Street it was quarter past two having parked up in Thomas Street. Cooke Street was still packed with marchers end to end, AGSI lining up at the Christchurch end, Sinn Fein in the middle and the Communist Party of Ireland with a load of Belfast Trades who'd been decent enough to come down at the St Audoen's end. So me and. Y kids marched with the AGSI figuring if any hassle started that was likely the safest place to be. And because my family's got a load of guards past and present. In fact walking down by Dublin Castle I met my cousin who's a detective wearing his blue AGSI vest and I said to him "Yer grandad would be proud of ya" and he said "tis the first protest Ive attended without being paid to" and I said something like "Never too late to mend yer ways" and we had a laugh and a chat all down Dame Street. Very well mannered crowds the COPter overhead had nothing to report save overly conservative estimates as to numbers. If they'd kicked off at 1330 and were still leaving Cooke Street an hour later and were marching anything up to ten and twelve abreast someone do the math. Ended up in Merrion Square and the Union poobahs were making their speeches and I decided I'd heard what they had to say five years ago the last time or maybe four the last time Id been on a Mach like this. It Eas just as good tempered then too. Asides from the occasional Trot in Army Bargains surplus shouting at street corners about the property tax and the need for a national strike to show EUrope who's boss I saw no real anger. Reasonableness yes. Annoyance yes. Worry yes. No anger though. Wonder how long that'll last hopefully awhile yet. Wonder will AGSI great people for all they do to keep us safe will march again when things are less even tempered. If things are less even tempered I hope.

Kyerin

My mother was at the Dublin protest and she reckoned there were around 50,000 people there. When the first protesters arrived at Merrion Square her group had not even left Cook St. and they were not the last group either. She also felt the RTE coverage didn't give anything like an accurate picture of the amount of people there, in fact she was pretty disgusted with it.

I thought protest meant riots.... when did the meaning of protests change!!!!

As for David Begg and the leaders of the Unions, you only have to check their salarys to know that they are not their for you, if you want to protest give up your union memebership and start your own amongst yourselves that has proper morals, for example the leadership cannot earn over the average industrial wage, and also is not allow to take salaries from multliple board memeberships like Begg has, sure he is complicit in the mess we are in.

Hanger on society we have!!!! its so depressing, thats why there are no new ideas!!!

Provisional Sinn fein

February 9th, 2013 - Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin respresentatives and activists were out in force to support ICTU’s anti-austerity rally today in Dublin.

Speaking after the event party spokesperson on social protection Aengus Ó Snodaigh said:
“We in Sinn Féin are proud to have supported ICTU’s ‘lift the burden’ rally today in Dublin.

“This week the government had an historic opportunity to secure a real reduction in the cost of the toxic banking debt foisted on the people by Fianna Fáil. Not only have Fine Gael and Labour wasted that opportunity, they have increased the cost of that burden for decades to come.

“The so-called deal will mean nothing to the families who are struggling to make ends meet. It will mean nothing to the mother who cannot put food on the table, to the father losing all hope of finding work, the family who have to wave goodbye to their loved ones at Dublin airport.

“The government is still pressing ahead with plans for water charges and a property tax – measures which will place even more of a burden on hard-pressed families.
“These issues and more made today’s rally all the more important.

“I hope that this will be the start of many popular demonstrations against the government’s reckless mismanagement of the economy.

“The message today was ‘lift the burden’ – I am calling on the government to listen to that message and realise that citizens cannot take anymore. We need a change of direction; we need a better fairer way.”

According to the SWP

"The energy to take resistance forward to a point where the country is shut down for a day will probably come from wider social movements – as occurred in Spain.
A national day of civil disobedience can bring together the growing movement against austerity and the increasing opposition to the waste of public money for these insane gambling debts.
This would involve walk outs from colleges, schools, workplaces as well as occupations and sit downs on roads.
Promoting and make concrete such a call should be a key task over the coming weeks. The government thinks it can contain demonstrations and marches such as we’ve seen so far so we need something different.
In the longer run, the power to terrify the political establishment lies in the workplaces and so the call for a national day of action must be part of a wider process of encouraging workers to use their industrial muscle to bring change.
In July 2013, for example, PAYE workers will face the prospect of their wage packets being raided once again by the Revenue Commissioners to collect the notorious property tax.
The more the movement builds up now to civil disobedience, the more likely it is that that grassroots of the union will remove or byepass that thin crust of union leaders whose primary loyalty is to the Labour Party when they see the effects of the property charge.
There can be a general stoppage in Ireland – but it won’t come without effort.

Indymedia Ireland Involved in Cover Up Censorship Abortion Cronyism Health Politics

Indymedia Ireland Involved in Cover Up Censorship Abortion Cronyism Health Politics

Systemic Fascist Censorship of Irish Media
The leader of Ireland's parliamentary opposition, Mr Martin said he had been looking for information on the location of the 20 primary care centre sites for months, while it appears the Labour partnership in the Coalition Government was facilitating a cover-up. It would appear their partners in the so called media of the left such as Indymedia Ireland are also involved in censorship, to protect their former Stalinist comrade now private healthcare lobbyist, Gilmore.

The leader of Ireland's parliamentary opposition, Mr Martin said he had been looking for information on the location of the 20 primary care centre sites for months, while it appears the Labour partnership in the Coalition Government was facilitating a cover-up.

“It took us some months through the Freedom of Information act to get this very basic information, which I have been asking for in the Dáil for the last number of months, I asked the Tánaiste in the Dáil could he produce and would he publish this documentation immediately and of course they refused. The freedom of information request was delayed for a further month, which really illustrates complete contempt for the Dáil, a blatant lack of transparency and we now know why.”

As reported by The Irish Times of last Saturday, Swords and Balbriggan were added the day before the announcement of the chosen sites, while Ballaghaderreen and Kilkenny were put on the list, just hours before it was announced. Indymedia Ireland are also censoring material related to this cover-up, along with censoring material initially published but later removed, related to the murder in a Galway hospital, of a mother refused an abortion, to save her life. Indymedia Ireland are also involved in massive censorship of matters relating to Marian Price, with the removal of a family statement on the seriously deteriorating health of this political internee.

Ms Shortall who resigned from her post in the Labour coalition on principle, said at the weekend this revelation showed “blatant stroke politics” were behind the decision. Dr Reilly “started off by assisting some of his colleagues and looking after some of his colleagues, and then at the last minute slipping in another four, two of which were in his own constituency. This documentation gives the lie to the many convoluted excuses and justifications that Minister Reilly and his colleagues gave in the Dáil and elsewhere to claim that there was some other criteria used .. other than pure political patronage.”

In October Dr Reilly told the Dáil, that the rationale behind the decision on primary care centres chosen, were made from a list with a “logistical logarithmic progression”. Ms Shortall said the documents demonstrated this justification to be “codswallop”. Likewise the bullscutter on a abortion and the censorshit of Indymedia Ireland relative to Marian Price and Eamon Gilmore, has a distinct whiff of the old sticky, RTE, Brit censorshit contagion. They are a disgraceful example of the sell out of the Irish working class both in parliament and in the Irish media in the closed shop of passes for politics in the clearly unfree Irish state that is compromised to secret dark forces.

The orginal vote of no confindence was called after it was reported that a list of primary care centre sites was altered the evening before its launch to include four new centres, two of which were in Dr Reilly’s constituency. The two centres, located in Swords and Balbriggan, were added to the priority list despite them not being located in the top 30 locations drawn up by the HSE and then minister Róisín Shortall.

Meanwhile Reilly has the neck to insist this morning, that he stood by his actions. "I have made it very clear that I stand over what I did and if I had to do it all again I'd do what I did, there is very clearly a need for primary care centres in all of the locations mentioned." Mr Martin said he had been trying to get this most basic of information on the location of the centres for several months. Provisional Sinn Féin made new calls or Dr Reilly’s resignation with party health spokesman Caoimhghin O Caolain saying Reily's position was untenable following the revelations about the timing of the amendments to the primary care centre priority list. He said the plan needed to be revisited and revised in a publicly accountable way to ensure there was no bias involved in the allocation of the centres."

Eamon Gilmore who has firmly supported Reilly, should also resign immediately, along with all of the agents involved in systematic media censorship in Ireland, of all articles related to the progressive resolution of problems stemming from ignorance in Ireland, as a result of persistent censorship in both the corporate and infiltrated media of Ireland.

Heartless Londoner Baggot see Urban Dictionary

BAGGOT IS A LONDONER

Press Freedom Another Victim of Heartless Policing

The police chief who was in charge of the British police force, that failed to protect a mother, who begged for police protection for her children who then went on to kill herself and her daughter, still refuses to apologize. He has now been promoted with a huge contract worth more than a million pounds sterling to police Ireland for "Her Majesty the Queen of England"

. Chief Constable Matt Baggott is the same Baggot who ran England's Leicestershire police force while Fiona Pilkington and her family endured violence, bullying and harassment that drove her to despair. Despite a record of persistent complaints by Ms. Pilkington over a long period of time, Baggot's police often heartlessly ignored her heart wrenching pleas for protection. Instead of being fired, he was promoted to teach loyalists in British occupied Ireland, on the finer points of British policing standards. He has also been awarded the Queen's Police Medal (QPM) and was later also appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

Baggot has just been serving in Ireland a few short weeks and already the local edition of the British version of the Sunday World's newspaper reports: “Anger as cops leave hanged man’s body on show for three hours”. The police later confirmed that the body was left hanging from the flyover for more than four hours. It had first been spotted by an off-duty officer at 8am, but may have been there longer, and was not removed until close to 1pm."

The Sunday World who also published a picture of the hanging, was criticized for coverage of the matter by Baggot. The image of cars driving past casually was necessary, as available tabloid space for words, could not adequately describe, the horror of the incident's impression. To be fair about the matter, it should be noted that shortly after the picture was taken, the traffic was then stopped by Baggot's British police force in Ireland. Nevertheless the body was still clearly visible by children from nearby houses for hours on end, before the British police bothered to get screens or remove it. Baggot's police who have massive screens which are normally used in public order situations, to hide Irish resistance to British rule in Ireland from the world's media, were not however used.

Baggott's first reaction was again, a form of heartless denial and distinct lack of responsibility, as in the Pilkington case. Rather than apologize, his first reaction was to criticize a newspaper's Sunday World photos of the incident. Another attempted cover-up, of British double-standards as he selectively criticized media coverage of the victims of his own negligence, while approving of the photos British inspired barbarities, such as the Saddam's hanging for instance, which appear regularly in the media worldwide. A reporter with the same newspaper, the Sunday World whom the English police chief of northern Ireland criticized, was shot three times as he walked hand-in-hand home with his wife. Almost a decade later the killers have not been charged, although a senior police officer told the inquest at the time, that he was satisfied eight people interviewed after the murder, were responsible.

Neither has the appointment of Martin McGuinness a 'peace proponent', and a former Irish republican turning to Unionist policies, who bizarrely himself has complained about the freedoms given to the local press, after being appointed as " her Majesty's" Deputy first minister in Ireland. Neither has it prompted any of her Majesty's other ministers in occupied Ireland to bother with justice in the matter. The coroner in the case of the journalist, Martin O'Hagan's murder said at the time he was satisfied with the police theory, that the murder of Mr O'Hagan was "related to investigative journalism in the area." Newsagents in the area are fearful too for their own safety and have also stopped selling newspapers, after being threatened.

A senior detective who has since retired and now works as a police consultant abroad, says that the priority should have been the presence of a doctor and attempts to revive the victim. If death was certain or instance if rigor mortis had set in, the body should have been cut down immediately and taken away for forensic examination. “I can’t see the logic of leaving it hanging exposed to the elements,” he said. “It would be preferable to cut it down, with the ligature still around the neck, and take it away for forensic examination indoors.”

Almost a decade after an investigative reporter, Martin O’Hagan was shot dead, journalists in Northern Ireland still question why police officers under Baggot\s British supervision have failed to bring anyone to justice: “Why?”.

Why, they demand to know, has no one been prosecuted, despite publication of massive evidence pointing to a loyalist paramilitary gang near O’Hagan’s former home in Lurgan ???????

The International body, Reporters Without Borders has condemned fresh paramilitary death threats made against other journalists in Ireland. A leading Belfast journalist recently recieved a threat, accompanied by a bullet, bearing the name, address and car registration number of Robin Livingstone, the editor of the "Andersonstown News", which was sent to a TV studio by a group claiming to be the Red Hand Defenders, thought to be a loyalist paramilitary front, for the occupying British forces that include, M16,M15, British Army, British Police, RUC/PSNI and many other British inspired death squads still roaming the streets of Ireland.

Reporters Without Borders say: "This latest sinister development shows that paramilitaries still feel at liberty to seek to intimidate journalists - a threat worsened by the police failure to catch the killers of Martin O'Hagan." The NUJ has also condemned such "outrageous" action. Jeremy Dear, the union's general secretary, said: "We condemn utterly such threats. It is vital the PSNI acts to protect those under threat and that politicians from all parties deliver a clear message in defence of media freedom and the right of journalists to work free from such threats."

A spokesperson from British Irish Rights Watch, has said the threats are aimed at stifling press freedom, adding: "With the 2001 murder of journalist Martin O'Hagan still unsolved, threats against journalists and others must be taken seriously." However Baggot's British police the PSNI has just recently threatened to imprison the Editor of another leading Irish newspaper, because of a refusal to reveal her sources, a normal journalistic right in any genuine democracy.

Many human rights campaigners have called for the immediate resignation of Baggot and McGuinness for their combined criticism and attacks on press freedom. Even the BBC who normally use selective censorship in Irish affairs, were forced to mention the matter.

Sadly in Ireland, decades after the much trumpeted "peace process", Press freedom has been one of the main victims. Ordinary people cower in silence with fear of British inspired death squads that still roam Irish streets. The resurrected disgraced sectarian police force of the former RUC, although given a new makeover name of the PSNI, are still detested by the majority of the population. Strangely the only common theme, that unites working people on both sides of sectarian divide fostered by the British presence, is their common hatred of Baggots newly named police force the PSNI under Baggot's British supervision.
