Leveson’s Punch and Judy Show

David Cameron Prefers Indymedia Ireland Newspeak to Leveson Recommendations

Leveson's Punch and Judy Show
Ex-Anglo-Saxon countries are having major difficulties currently, with democratic accountability and proper functioning Government, that doesn't' make enemies and targets of it's citizens or engage in mindless, lie-driven media carnage in other countries.
CENSORED in Indymedia Ireland
CENSORED in Indymedia Ireland
Murdoch who violated her majesty's queendom and the commoners of the UK, is so entrenched in the corridors of British power, as result of his infiltration, along with MI5/MI6, into media/political manipulation decades ago, that they have hardly been touched by the Leveson, Punch and Judy Show. Independent PressTV were ejected from Britain for no reason by the much touted media regulator earlier this year.

This has already happened along time ago, starting with Britain's first colony Ireland and its host of other compliant Commonwealth regimes and bureaucracy left in the wake of the UK empire, including the US. All media in Anglo-Saxon contrived countries of empire, have been infiltrated, including neo-Stalinist/fascist networks portraying themselves as left wing like Indymedia Ireland and a very sticky state sham broadcaster called RTE. John Pilger commenting on the Levenson Inquiry wrote:

“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all argument, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance. This principle is, contempt prior to examination.”: - Rev. William H. Poole

In Britain, the world of subjugated news and information is concealed behind a façade of a “free” media, which promotes the extremisms of state corruption and war, consumerism and an impoverishment known as “austerity”. Leveson devoted his “inquiry” to the preservation of this system. My favourite laugh-out-loud quote of His Lordship is: “I have seen no basis at any stage for challenging the integrity of the police.”

Those who have long tired of deconstructing the clichés and deceptions of   “news” say: “At least there is the internet now.”

The “hacking” on a vast scale by the state and its intelligence and military arms and “security” corporations. It was unmentionable at the Leveson inquiry, even though the internet was within Leveson’s remit. It is the subject of Cypherpunks: Freedom and the future of the internet by Julian Assange with Jacob Appelbaum, Andy Muller-Maguhn and Jeremie Zimmermann (OR Books). That the Guardian, a principal gatekeeper of liberal debate in Britain, should describe their published conversation as “dystopian musings” is unsurprising. Understanding what they have to say is to abandon the vicarious as journalism and embrace the real thing.

“The internet was supposed to be a civilian space,” Assange writes. “[It] is our space, because we all use it to communicate with each other and with members of our family … Ten years ago [mass interception] was seen to be a fantasy, something only paranoid people believed in” but now the internet is becoming “a militarized zone.”  When everyone can be intercepteden masse, spying on individuals is redundant. Stasi, the East German secret police, “penetrated” 10 per cent of East Germany society.

Today, the cost of intercepting and storing all telephone calls in Germany in a year is less than eight million euros. More than 175 companies now sell the surveillance of whole countries. A whistleblower at the giant US telecommunications company AT&T has disclosed that the National Security Agency (NSA) allegedly took every phone call, every internet connection. The NSA intercepts 1.6 bn. personal communications every day.
To the “national security state”, of which the US is the pioneer and model, “perpetual war” is a given; and the public are the enemy -- not terrorists. Google, Facebook and Twitter are all based in the US.

In December 2010, Twitter was ordered by the Justice Department to surrender its clients’ personal information relevant to the Obama administration’s pursuit of WikiLeaks, no matter where in the world people lived. Obama has pursued twice as many whistleblowers as all US presidents combined. This is why Assange and Bradley Manning are targets – along with those rare journalists who do their job and publish in the public interest. Like Assange they, too, are liable to be prosecuted for espionage, regardless of what the US Constitution says. A whistleblower at the NSA, Bill Binney, describes this as “turnkey totalitarianism”.

The iniquity of Rupert Murdoch was not his “influence” over the Tweedledees and Tweedledums in Downing Street, nor the thuggery of his eavesdroppers, but the augmented barbarism of his media empire in promoting the killing, suffering and dispossession of countless men, women and children inBritain’s illegal wars.
Murdoch has plenty of respectable accomplices. The liberal Observer was as rabid a devotee of the Iraq invasion.

When Tony Blair gave evidence to the Leveson inquiry, bleating about the media’s harassment of his wife, he was interrupted by a filmmaker, David Lawley-Wakelin, who described him as a war criminal. At that, Lord Leveson leapt to his feet and ordered the truth-teller thrown out and apologised to the war criminal. Such an exquisite display of irony is contemptuous of all of us.

Indymedia Ireland censorship promotes ignorance.Censorship in Indymedia Ireland attempts to discourage and prevent access to media. Media contains information critical to informed analysis and debate. Debate generally doesn't happen on Indymedia Ireland because Stalinist and Nazi like censorship doesn't have where with all to debate so they censor like the book burning Nazi's of Hitler and Stalin.

Indymedia Ireland censorship promotes ignorance.Censorship in Indymedia Ireland attempts to discourage and prevent access to media. Media contains information critical to informed analysis and debate. Debate generally doesn't happen on Indymedia Ireland because Stalinist and Nazi like censorship doesn't have where with all to debate so they censor like the bookburning Nazi's of Hitler and Stalin.

Failure to acquire information perpetuates ignorance of that information. Preventing access to media and deleting articles regularly from prevents access to information.Indymedia Ireland censorship prevents access to media and enables the ignorance that kills women like Savita Halappanavar.

Therefore Indymedia Ireland censorship promotes ignorance. No logical explanation can circumvent this simple truth so Indymedia Ireland will censor this article which will be copied and posted elsewhere as proof of their systematic censorship of all things progressive in Ireland. You may argue that most media contains inappropriate, false, irrelevant or irreverent information but that is no excuse for not debating it instead of censorship. Censorship like fascism is heartless.

Neither denying or admitting the validity and value of information, I simply state that lack of information through censorship in Indymedia Ireland causes ignorance of that information. They may argue that we are better off without some information but the truth is, if in truth we are better off without some information, then who has the wisdom and objectivity required to decide the information we are better off with or the information we are better off without?

Indymedia Ireland censors must access information to decide its inappropriate qualities, false-hoods, irrelevance or irreverence of the information. If Indymedia Ireland censors honestly, with direct contact, label media as inappropriate, false, irrelevant or irreverent, then the Indymedia censors must have accessed the information. To allow a small minority group access all information so they can restrict the amount of information available to the remainder of the Irish population is incompatible with a free society.

In an Irish society that allows a minority to determine the level of ignorance to which the majority of Ireland is subjected, who empowers this elite group? Who determines who in Ireland sees all that keeps the remainder in darkness? Who decides what is appropriate, true, relevant or reverent? What criteria have they developed to determine how ignorant the general Irish public should be? Who in Indymedia Ireland developed this criteria?

They may argue, there is information that is inappropriate for children? If a child has the intellect to understand concepts, then it is time to introduce the child to those concept; to encourage the child to learn the social consequences, individual responsibilities and acceptable responses to those concepts.Ignorance is not bliss.Rather than censor articles, videos, photographs perhaps Indymedia Ireland might teach to interpret media and encourage children to acquire the skill of applying discretion and the correct response to inappropriate, deceptive, irrelevant or irreverent material. Imagine an Irish culture of people making informed decisions about content experienced in contrast to an Irish culture who live in the dark ignorance of Indymedia ireland censorship.

All censorship including the censorship of political correctness, censorship of Church, censorship of State, and particularly censorship imposed by multinational corporations leads to ignorance in its citizens.Ireland cannot afford anymore ignorance and should sense developing tragedy when Irish(British) censors ignorantly deem themselves qualified to determine what you and I can read and watch. Indymedia Ireland Ignorance does not ignite the human spirit of Ireland.

Dark forces dim our potential as free, creative and productive Irish citizens. Shadows cast by censors from walls erected by champions of secrecy and ignorance, champion we do not choose, champion to protect us from ourselves without asking permission or explaining coherently why? Champions who continually and deceptively promote themselves as progressive. No its not science fiction but it is happening right here, right now in Indymedia ireland, I challenge them to debate this not censor it ! Indymedia censorship leads to ignorance. Censorship in Ireland is on the rise.Ignorance that killed Savita Halappanavar in Ireland still flourishes.

Systemic Fascist Censorship of Irish Media
The leader of Ireland's parliamentary opposition, Mr Martin said he had been looking for information on the location of the 20 primary care centre sites for months, while it appears the Labour partnership in the Coalition Government was facilitating a cover-up. It would appear their partners in the so called media of the left such as Indymedia Ireland are also involved in censorship, to protect their former Stalinist comrade now private healthcare lobbyist, Gilmore.

Gilmore's Criminal Private Healthcare Buddy
The leader of Ireland's parliamentary opposition, Mr Martin said he had been looking for information on the location of the 20 primary care centre sites for months, while it appears the Labour partnership in the Coalition Government was facilitating a cover-up.

“It took us some months through the Freedom of Information act to get this very basic information, which I have been asking for in the Dáil for the last number of months, I asked the Tánaiste in the Dáil could he produce and would he publish this documentation immediately and of course they refused. The freedom of information request was delayed for a further month, which really illustrates complete contempt for the Dáil, a blatant lack of transparency and we now know why.”

As reported by The Irish Times of last Saturday, Swords and Balbriggan were added the day before the announcement of the chosen sites, while Ballaghaderreen and Kilkenny were put on the list, just hours before it was announced. Indymedia Ireland are also censoring material related to this cover-up, along with censoring material initially published but later removed, related to the murder in a Galway hospital, of a mother refused an abortion, to save her life. Indymedia Ireland are also involved in massive censorship of matters relating to Marian Price, with the removal of a family statement on the seriously deteriorating health of this political internee.

Ms Shortall who resigned from her post in the Labour coalition on principle, said at the weekend this revelation showed “blatant stroke politics” were behind the decision. Dr Reilly “started off by assisting some of his colleagues and looking after some of his colleagues, and then at the last minute slipping in another four, two of which were in his own constituency. This documentation gives the lie to the many convoluted excuses and justifications that Minister Reilly and his colleagues gave in the Dáil and elsewhere to claim that there was some other criteria used .. other than pure political patronage.”

In October Dr Reilly told the Dáil, that the rationale behind the decision on primary care centres chosen, were made from a list with a “logistical logarithmic progression”. Ms Shortall said the documents demonstrated this justification to be “codswallop”. Likewise the bullscutter on a abortion and the censorshit of Indymedia Ireland relative to Marian Price and Eamon Gilmore, has a distinct whiff of the old sticky, RTE, Brit censorshit contagion. They are a disgraceful example of the sell out of the Irish working class both in parliament and in the Irish media in the closed shop of passes for politics in the clearly unfree Irish state that is compromised to secret dark forces.

The orginal vote of no confindence was called after it was reported that a list of primary care centre sites was altered the evening before its launch to include four new centres, two of which were in Dr Reilly’s constituency. The two centres, located in Swords and Balbriggan, were added to the priority list despite them not being located in the top 30 locations drawn up by the HSE and then minister Róisín Shortall.

Meanwhile Reilly has the neck to insist this morning, that he stood by his actions. "I have made it very clear that I stand over what I did and if I had to do it all again I'd do what I did, there is very clearly a need for primary care centres in all of the locations mentioned." Mr Martin said he had been trying to get this most basic of information on the location of the centres for several months. Provisional Sinn Féin made new calls or Dr Reilly’s resignation with party health spokesman Caoimhghin O Caolain saying Reily's position was untenable following the revelations about the timing of the amendments to the primary care centre priority list. He said the plan needed to be revisited and revised in a publicly accountable way to ensure there was no bias involved in the allocation of the centres."

Eamon Gilmore who has firmly supported Reilly, should also resign immediately, along with all of the agents involved in systematic media censorship in Ireland, of all articles related to the progressive resolution of problems stemming from ignorance in Ireland, as a result of persistent censorship in both the corporate and infiltrated media of Ireland.

Official Secrets Act, Secret Services, secret evidence, secret witnesses, secret prosecutions and now secret courts. We are as sick as our secrets as a society and Britain is now legislating all of its secret experiments in British Occupied Ireland into law, in England itself, with secret political internment without trial now becoming the norm. What chance tortured, perverted injustices, such as the convictions of the Birmingham six or Guildford four, which took years of painful campaigning to overturn, being corrected in secret courts? See The Pogues Vidoe - Top 10 X-Rated: Birmingham Six below.

The United Nations' special rapporteur on torture, Professor Juan Méndez, intervened in the UK debate on secret courts, where MI5 have shredded royal pardons and now prosecute secret evidence, against political dissident such as Marian Price, with a warning that wrong doing by security intelligence agencies if undisclosed, will not be confronted. "If a country is in possession of information about human rights abuses, but isn't in a position to mention them, it hampers the ability to deal effectively with torture," he told an audience at Chatham House in London. The fact that the government has applied for the use of closed material procedure in a court cases, from which the defendant is kept secret, enables unaccountable secret service behavior of the worst kind that includes torture.

Meanwhile the politically interned Marian Price, has already been kept in the dark for over 18 months about her status, with secret trials which have already taken place, in the sectarian police statelet of British Occupied Ireland, where secret courts and internment without trial, cover for the ineptness of British secret service agencies there. The British occupied statelet, created on a sectarian headcount and maintained in an undemocratic, unaccountable society, now with even further proposed draconian legislation, intend to offer even greater protection, for "bad" intelligence, with ever increasing use by the British Government of dubious and illegal UAV technology, which relies heavily on intelligence information to be effective, being just a matter of time, before the use of secret trials is included to liquidate Irish political activists, with British drones flying over all of Ireland.

The internment of political prisoners along with the use of "closed material procedures" (CMPs), enables the secret services to introduce sensitive information in secret trials, that can only be seen by a judge or secret service cleared "specially appointed state advocates" to supposedly represent the interests of an interned political activist. The special advocate will not give their Irish client, precise details of the evidence against them and will only provide a "gist" or loose summary of it.. Like Marian Price, internees will not be made aware of all allegations being made, without equal footing, the advantage firmly in the repressive regime's favour, taking Irish people back to the 17th Century, when British trials behind closed doors were used to silence Irish opponents, of the occupying British, ruling elite.

If defendants like Marian Price cannot know the details of the case against her, how can she or her lawyers challenge it? The most obvious example being the defence of alibi, that she was not in a certain place at certain times not specified by the prosecution. If she cannot know the place and time at which the secret services allege she was doing whatever it is they are accusing her of, how can the 'special advocate' get evidence to the contrary ?

The so called 'security vetting' of the special advocates is done by the the prosecutors with the power to eliminate effective defence and wide open to abuse 'ensuring that they are inclined to believe everything they are told by the secret services'. But then if you are Irish and you don't trust the occupying secret services, then you too are most definitely a candidate, for Internment without proper trial in British Occupied Ireland too, aren't you ? This denial of public justice in favour of a select, and well connected, secret few bigoted English Tories or sectarian orangemen, determining what information the native Irish should have access to, in secret judicial proceedings, that can throw away the key to freedom for life?

A great many cases against the British government arising from the troubles in British Occupied Ireland, are currently being prepared by lawyers in the sectarian scum state, while the British unable to be sure how many claims, it could face in the future as a result of the ongoing conflict. With a host of security scandals unearthed, including allegations of torture of political prisoners such as Marian Price, meant to be hidden in closed material procedures. Even fundamental personal right,s such as freedom from imprisonment, guaranteed by the ancient writ of habeas corpus now routinely ignored and trampled on daily.

With the British also accused of the mental torture of political prisoners such as Marian Price, while she was kept in solitary confinement for over a year of her 18 month political internement, the UN Special Rapporteur also called for an end to the practice of her solitary confinement when he said;

“Social isolation is one of the harmful elements of solitary confinement and its main objective. It reduces meaningful social contact to an absolute minimum,” Mr. Méndez also said. “A significant number of individuals will experience serious health problems regardless of the specific conditions of time, place, and pre-existing personal factors.” Indefinite and prolonged solitary confinement, in excess of fifteen days, should also be subject to an absolute prohibition,” he said noting that scientific studies have established that some lasting mental damage is caused after just a few days of social isolation.Considering the severe mental pain or suffering solitary confinement may cause,” Mr. Méndez further warned the British, “it can amount to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment when used as a punishment, during pretrial detention, indefinitely or for a prolonged period, for persons with mental disabilities or juveniles.”

Marian Price is currently close to death in a Belfast hospital, with extremely serious health issues, as a result of British torture, while she was kept in solitary confinement. Even Lord Kerr a leading figure of the British establishment asserted: "Evidence which has been insulated from challenge may positively mislead … the right to know the case that one's opponent makes and to have the opportunity to challenge it occupies … a central place in the concept of a fair trial." The internment of Marian Price, Gerry McGeough and Martin Corey have had an adverse impact on the peace process, with the Nationalist community always having regarded political internment, as act of war by the Tory vice royals in Ireland. There many indicators of a return to war in the occupied six counties.

• Secret injustice by MI5 or MI6 cannot constitute a fair trial and certainly destroy any public confidence in the almost defunct peace process.

• Judges, not politicians, should decide these issues, having twice dismissed the case against Marian already, the British overruling their own judiciary, still intern her under the guise of resurrecting the very same charges, dismissed in court already.

• Evidence of torture is being suppressed by the new generation of MI5 secret courts without accountability or transpaency

The status of an open justice principle is the basis to all International common law fundamentals and an important human rights obligation. Without doubt the current British experiments with internment and secret courts in Occupied Ireland, condemns Britain once again to pariah state status, having been found guilty already in the European Court of Human Right in Strasbourg, with torture in Ireland of political internees. The British point the finger of human rights around the world to camouflage their flagrant abuse and disdain for international standards of human rights.

Legislation, introduced currently by the back door in the House of Lords rather than the normal House of Commoners, is overturning long-established, common law precedents about fair and open justice. So called "closed material procedures" (CMPs) take it another stage further, enabling unaccountable secret services to dictate word to the judge via the secretary of state offices and sometimes to already secret service, compromised judges for British Occupied Ireland, with the judge only allowed to make a decision, if the British Vice royal makes an application.

The judge will not weigh up the relative merits of a CMP or decide what the fairest way would be to decide the case. The judge's hands are effectively tied. Secret justice cannot constitute a fair trial and will furthershake the already damaged public confidence. The open justice principle has been absent for may years, in the many political trials of British Occupied Ireland guaranteeing that the peace process will not work with such baltant injustice. The joint committee on human rights describe this silence as "a serious omission". Even the British government's own impact assessment concede the secret courts undermine public confidence in the judicial system and essentially destroying the peace process in Ireland, permanently."

PRETENTIOUS INDYMEDIA IRISH WHORES OF BRITISH COMPLIANT CENSORSHIP

IRISH MEDIA WHORES

Raglan Road by Patrick Kavanagh censored by Imperialist complaint ignorant Irish arseholes. This cryptic song is about the literary whores of Ireland who prostituted their creative soul to the British.

On Raglan Road of an Autumn day
I saw her first and knew,
That her dark hair would weave a snare
That I might someday rue.
I saw the danger and I passed
Along the enchanted way.
And I said,"Let grief be a fallen leaf
At the dawning of the day."

On Grafton Street in November, we
Tripped lightly along the ledge
Of a deep ravine where can be seen
The worth of passion play.
The Queen of Hearts still making tarts
And I not making hay;
Oh, I loved too much and by such and such
Is happiness thrown away.

I gave her gifts of the mind,
I gave her the secret signs,
That's known to the artists who have known
The true gods of sound and stone.
And her words and tint without stint
I gave her poems to say
With her own name there and her own dark hair
Like clouds over fields of May.

On a quiet street where old ghosts meet
I see her walking now,
And away from me so hurriedly
My reason must allow.
That I had loved, not as I should
A creature made of clay,
When the angel woos the clay, he'll lose
His wings at the dawn of day.

Almost every professional Irish author has had a book banned and Indymedia Ireland carries on that fascist tradition today, in the British compliant Irish scums states, with the same fanaticism as the Nazi book burners of Hitler did. As Mr. Deasy said to Stephen Dedalus, Ireland is "the only counby which never persecuted the Jews. Did you know that? No !. Do you know why?. Because it never let them h.. . ." (Joyce). Some people forget that Ulysses itself was never officially banned in Ireland, simply kept out. In fact, most of the Irish scum states libraries and bookshops, maintained an unofficial ban until the fiftieth anniversary of the Easter Rebellion.

One consequence of the British compliant, Irish censorship culture maintained today by Indymedia Ireland, is that modernism
almost totally passed Ireland by.From the establishment of the Censorship of Publications Act in 1929 in Ireland right up to the present day censorship by Indymedia Ireland, is termed, "the fíercest literary censorship this side of the former Iron Curtain or today's Egyptian denial." Leading intemational modemists like Brian Clarke, currently banned by Indymedia Ireland today, like those formerly censored, like Beckett, Faulkner, Greene, Hemingway, Huxley, Joyce (for Stephen Hero), Kafka, Lawrence, Mann, Maugham, Moore, Nabokov, Proust, Scott Fitzgerald and Steinbeck, to name but a few .

While modernism is censored in Indymedia Ireland, postmodernism creeps in through their rather large back door unnoticed. The discussion of where modemism ended and postmodernism begins is an irrelevant one with regard to Ireland, as result of censors like Indymedia Ireland, very few Irish understand today, as a result of Indymedia, British or Egyptian type censorship, what modernism means, so it is outside the arnbit of any discussion of Indymedia ireland.

It is generally accepted in the rather large world outside the censors of Indymedia Ireland, where quality literature is still allowed to be read, that post modernism started with literature such as Joyce's Finnegans Wake, Beckett's Murphy, and Flann O'Brien s At Swim-Two-Birds. For theorists outside censored Ireland the blurred origins may be traced back to Finnegans Wake: "a monstrous prophecy of our post-modernity, with all the elements of post-modem literature this 'novel': dream, parody, play, pun, fragment, fable, reflexiveness, kitsch, is the edge of pure silence or pure noise".

Richard Kearney wrote, that Irish novelists "broadly conform to the structural requirements of classical realism, without a trace of the modernist problematic of fiction". With Joyce dead, Beckett abandoning Gaelic-English for French and Flann O'Brien relatively unknown. The Irish novel is hemmed in by the isolationist policies of Indymedia Ireland, an integral part of the Irish Scum State, to more insular forms, which embrace a kind of realism that Myles na Gopaleen sneered at, "stories about wee Annie going to her fust confession, stuff about country funerals or will-making, match-making-just one long blush for many an innocent man like me, who never harmed them."

Like the un-ethical Indy domain, prostituted as a British resistance to the nativist hegemony of post-colonial, catholic Ireland which unlike Joyce or Beckett, O'Brien never left Ireland, and so his strategies of silence, exile and punning are, by necessity, of a different order. As a writer whose exile was interior, O'Brien's post- modernist fiction-"the edge of pure silence or pwe noise"-might usefully be explored in the context of its relationship to Indymedia Ireland's censorship of anything remotely enlightened or Irish.

Thailand Bangkok Censorship and Another Eton Rifle Bloodbath

Websites are blocked by Uniform Resource Locator (URL) or IP address. However, only about 20% of blocked sites are identified by IP; the remaining 80% are unable to be identified at a physical location. Sites identified as being located in Thailand have legal action taken against their operators.

Several technologies are employed to censor the Internet such as caching, blacklisting domain name or IP address, or simply redirection to a government homepage. Blacklisting the website is beneficial for this kind of web censorship as the webmasters would be unaware that their websites are being blocked. This measure is said to be used to make websites appear unavailable.

Because of the above my articles are either scrambled or unavailable here in Thailand. Certain mainstream outlets are still available but all objective commentary or opposition censored which runs into the thousands now. TV stations of the people or those reporting events objectively have been closed down.

Several reporters critical of the establishment are serving sentences of up to 20 years presently here. I have been fiercely critical of the BBC's coverage of occupied Ireland in the past but I must acknowledge their coverage of events here have generally been reasonably balanced. In the absence of being able publish his articles presently BFClarke a usual anchor here has asked me to publish this on his behalf, to try to describe events exactly, as he has been forced to furnish the links below long with an article that was scrambled last night because of present circumstance.

Latest Update : 3 dead +,  Hundreds injured.

Maj-Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol, or Seh Daeng, the head of Redshirt security has been shot in the head at the protest site in central Bangkok . He was admitted to Hua Chiew hospital and is receiving an emergency treatment for a gunshot wound where his condition is said to be stable. At least 10 people were also njured in the clashes between the army and protesters near Lumpini Park. Demonstrators threw stones at close circuit television cameras and blockaded the area with steel fences.

Immediately after he was shot at Sala Daeng intersection, Seh Daeng was rushed to Hua Chiew hospital. He is still receiving emergency treatment.

Snipers carrying weapons and live ammunition moved into position prior to the shooting. Gunfire and loud explosions were heard near the area where the Redshirts are camped out at their protest site in Bangkok. The gunfire started after the 6pm (1100 GMT) deadline set by the government passed without the protesters moving off the scene.

Sean Boonpracong a Redshirts spokesperson earlier said, "We believe that this is the beginning of the army plan to crack down on us. We have been prepared for this for a long time,"

"We will send out groups to surround these vehicles to prevent them from advancing," Jatuporn Prompan, a protest leader said. "We believe the army will try to crack down this evening or tomorrow morning."

Earlier reports said army chief Gen Anupong Paojinda on Wednesday approved "Operation Ratchaprasong" involving 32,000 troops and 120 APCs to seal off the rally site.

The government had threatened to cut off power and water supplies to the Rajprasong neighbourhood of Bangkok, where the demonstrators are massed, if the protesters did not disperse by midnight local time (1700 GMT) on Wednesday.

The Prime minister's spokesperson Korbsak Sabhavsau said,
"It's clear that the red shirts have only verbally accepted to join the reconciliation roadmap but have not agreed to end the protests," In Thai culture a verbal agreement, is very different to a formal written one with an official presence.

It is clear that the Redshirts will not back down, that there will be a bloodbath if the army and APCs move in to the protest site. It is likely that marksmen are going to take out the hardcore leaders, as is usual with Eton educated British leadership with protest movements like occupied Ireland and other neo-colonies.

Earlier in the day, Seh Daeng or Commander Red said in an interview before he was shot,

"I'm not afraid of dying. They've marked my head. If I'm afraid, it is who will lead the Redshirts?. All I have on me is a small pistol and a stick ... ..If anyone comes to arrest me, I can assure you I'll shoot and fight to the end ..... Soldiers are on to me. There are snipers out there. But they'll never get me, I'm a Redshirt security commander-in-chief, I can't fear anything, I will not wear protective armour, such dress would make me feel like one who fears death and would prevent me from leading others who do not have protective clothing."

UPDATE ;

"We will continue to rally here at Ratchaprasong. If the government wants to disperse us, do it tonight and don't wait till tomorrow because we'll fight to the end," Redshirt Leader Jatuporn declared.
He said army specialist Maj-Gen Khattiya Sawadipol, also known as Seh Daeng, was now in a stable condition after he was shot in the head. While he was giving the speech, Redshirts were shining spotlights at nearby buildings to prevent snipers from attacking the red-shirt leaders.

Clinton Statement on Human Rights Ignores British Censorship

Hillary Clinton and the US state department yesterday castigated censorship worldwide, as an attack on basic human rights, unfortunately they were extremely selective and ignored Britain's
rampant censorship. While British censorship like a lot of its human rights abuses are well disguised they have undoubtedly the worlds worst record on this basic human right. A link at the bottom of the article explains their record which is now almost a total blackout, to enable a fake media driven peace pretence without basic human rights or justice in Ireland.

The number of agents currently working for MI5 in Ireland, either directly or as paid agents is a 'British Official State Secret' as is anything substantive of a political nature on John Bull's other island but it numbers at least several thousand secret British agents, including their embedded journalists and editors in almost all of the Irish media. The BBC world service while unofficially the organ of her British Majesty's propaganda war, is under the total control of MI-5 and their agents, broadcasting unrestricted worldwide to her neo-colonies and compliant ex-colonies freely but should any of the natives question on its forums the truth about British torture for
example, they are mostly all censored. Huge resources of their taxpayers money are spent slowing the flow of information or blogs which are not pro British.

There were seventy ethical journalists assassinated worldwide in 2009, as a result of publishing such 'secrets' worldwide online, making it the worst year since records began, the Committee to Protect Journalists says. The British generally subcontract their international assassinations quite often, to groups such as Kidon a Mossad entity. Many Journalists which would not support the British lies around the invasion of Iraq, were assassinated

Many governments used the internet to prevent freedom of expression at home, the US state department says in its latest annual human rights report. In many cases electronic communications are restricted to control domestic dissent, it says. US Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton described the annual country reports - legally required by Congress - as "an important tool in the development of practical and effective human rights strategy by the United States government".

The US report said, over the past year many governments had applied "overly broad interpretations of terrorism and emergency powers" as a way of limiting basic human rights.

It said 2009 was a year in which more people gained access to the internet, at the same time governments spent more "time, money and attention" finding ways to control people.

Election blocking The report said "increased its efforts to monitor internet use, control content, restrict information, block access to foreign and domestic websites, encourage self-censorship, and punish those who violated regulations". Thousands of people political life are deployed
to monitor electronic communications, it added.

"The government at times blocked access to selected sites operated by major foreign news outlets, health organisations, foreign governments, educational institutions, and social networking sites, as well as search engines, that allow rapid communication or organisation of
users."

• Discrimination against Muslims in Europe is an "increasing concern"

• Sri Lanka violated human rights at the end of last year's campaign
against Tamil Tigers and has also curbed press freedom

• Violence and human rights violations in Russia's volatile North
Caucasus region have risen dramatically over the past year

• Burma's military junta continued "human rights violations and abuses"

Regarding Sri Lanka, the report accuses the government of violating
human rights last year as it defeated Tamil Tiger insurgents.

Irish Voice Despite Addams Family's British Censorship

Link to IrishfreedomNews and the Pensive Quill

Intimidation of working class homes by censorship gangs. Visits by members of their thought police gang. Any alternative version of Irish events outside the British controlled media one, is censored in many different ways besides the obvious. I personally have had British spooks call me in the middle of the night, with less than subtle threats to silence me. Having failed to win the media war, mercenary gangs opt to increase the pressure off-camera, in the back streets of working class ireland through intimidation. It makes no difference, truth will out.

The existence of such a culture of British inspired censorship and intimidation has been the backdrop of traditional republicanism since it first emerged. The leadership within Provisional Sinn Féin now supported by a British controlled Irish media do not want their credentials scrutinised. Working class activists, are informed that they cannot speak in public, if deviating from the movement's pro-unionist line. The same principle is applied to republican family meetings. Activists who ask difficult questions of an Adams party speaker are 'gripped' after the event and told such behaviour is non-acceptable behaviour.

Andrew Marr, a very British columnist made the following observation:

"The gunmen in the dripping border villages aren't doing well out of this. ... The poor bloody infantry, and the poor bloody sergeants, with our council flats and farmworkers' cottages? These are the people who now matter most, and are about the only people who haven't been bribed. Everyone else benefits from the peace process."

The nationalists who participated in a Stormont government of the mid-1970s very much to the left of the present one, were labelled by the pen of Danny Morrison, writing with the pseudonym Peter Arnlis, was that they were collaborators, traitors and opportunists.

News Blackout on Child Abuse Controversy in Ireland

Sinead O'Connor's  WAR LINK

As the controversy regarding Gerry Adams and the PSNI's part, in decades of cover up with regard to child sexual abuse in the Northern part of Ireland rages on, a news blackout exists on the matter in the Free State.
Some blame the new Blasphemy Law for intimidation of weak journalists on the matter. Only the very British Belfast Telegraph published a public statement yesterday by Sinead O' Connor with regard to child abuse and its nationwide enablers. Catholic media sitll detest O'Connor for going public on the widespread systemic child abuse in a Catholic country still in denial about its seriousness.

Sinead O'Connor said that the Pope should come to Ireland to
personally apolozise for the litany of crimes against children
outlined in the Ryan and Murphy reports.

She said "In 1987, the Church in Ireland took out an insurance policy
to protect themselves from claims they foresaw would be brought
against them from survivors of clerical abuse and their families. If
they knew as far back as 1987, why did they not deal with the issue
then?"

"In all this time and with the Ryan report and now the Murphy report,
why did neither Pope John Paul II or Pope Benedict get on a plane and
come to Ireland to meet the survivors, to personally apologise and
thank them for their bravery in coming forward?

"It seems to me the Church themselves should have been the ones to
bring this matter into the public arena," she said. "One of the
reasons I feel so passionately about these issues is that I am myself
a survivor of severe child abuse."

I myself would go much further and say that the Vatican itself should
now be the subject of criminal investigation into what went on in the
Irish Catholic Church," she says. "They knew in 1987 what was going on
in the Irish Church -- they did nothing but act to preserve their
business interests.

These are the people who acted in the interests of children and in the
interests of Catholicism. Ireland owes them a massive debt of
gratitude for bringing us the truth and therefore allowing us to
disentangle ourselves from oppression and lies.

The Republic's Minister Barry should organise for a monument, to be
paid for by the Catholic Church, to be erected in every diocese to
honour and thank these brave people who have fought to be heard and
changed the course of Irish history.

Their names should be set in stone so that this country will never
forget their courage and they will remain an inspiration for
generations to come," she said.

Count Adams is Blasphemy in the Irish Free State

Unpixelated filth provokes proscription.of the mention of Count Adams
in the Irish Free State.

The Government has announced plans to ban the Catholic Church after RTE
aired graphic scenes of its members engaged in a highly inappropriate group
activity at a funeral of one of its top Bishops who didn't resign
before he died.Members of the Catholic Church including Count Adams
and Mullah McGuinness were pictured
shamelessly professing their faith in an omnipotent Christian god who
“loves all of mankind except children”.

As soon as the footage aired, RTE was inundated with thousands of
complaints. One caller’s views were typical: “I had just sat down in
front of the TV with all of my family and suddenly the screen was filled
with this massive prrick. I think he said his name was Father or Count
Adams. There
was no warning and he wasn’t even pixelated. My grandmother could have
been watching, but thankfully she died several years ago.”

Count Adams, part of the Catholic monarchy, defended the event thus: “We live
in a free society. If these people don’t want to watch one of our
Bishop child abuse enablers being buried, why don’t they just do the
logical thing and switch to another channel. Haven’t they got
anything better to do with their time than sit around complaining?
Jaysus foc*king Chrrist!”

However, as the number of complaints climbed to over a million, the
Mullah for Stormont against dissident journalists, announced that it
would be
taking action against any sort of journalism after seeing a copy of
the new free State Blasphemy Laws.
“As for this Child Abuse Inquiry document is utterly obscene. I’ve
never seen anything like it: just pages and pages of cunts and as for
the Inquiry into child abuse it’s just a
collection of mother-foc*kers. I can’t see any justification for there
being that number of cunts in one place so we have no option but to
recommend that journalism be closed down immediately in the Irish
Free State.”

Last night, as RTE logged its ten billionth complaint (from a
tribeswoman in the Amazonian jungle) the Catholic Church remained
defiant. An upbeat Lord Londonderry said: “We shall fight on. You
cannot silence us. Opinions are like arseholes everyone's got one but
there is only Pope and one Count Adams.
If I get my way we’re going to be the only church on the block and
the Protestant's, Dissenters and Dissidents can go fuck themselves!

If any of you have a problem with this, I'll have the Gardai arrest
you under the new Blasphemy Law.”

Count Adams angrily added that there are fuckers who are even claim
that our beloved land is tonight under threat from a wave of
Puritanism so virulent that it is nothing short of a fatwa, or even a
jihad, possibly but you can ask Mullah McGuinness about that I prefer
to call it a mini Crusade: a sort of a Holy War but these godless
communists who printed the 25 blasphemies are absolute bastards.

When on hack suggested that Count Adams had dropped the O in his name
recently he was told to fock off and interview the fuckers who printed
the following 25 blasphemies.

Atheist Ireland Publishes 25 Blasphemous Quotes
Filed under: Atheist Ireland, Campaign, Freedom of Speech, Is this
Blasphemy?, Quotes — Michael Nugent @ 12:33 am

From today, 1 January 2010, the new Irish blasphemy law becomes
operational, and we begin our campaign to have it repealed. Blasphemy
is now a crime punishable by a €25,000 fine. The new law defines
blasphemy as publishing or uttering matter that is grossly abusive or
insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby
intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents
of that religion, with some defences permitted.

This new law is both silly and dangerous. It is silly because medieval
religious laws have no place in a modern secular republic, where the
criminal law should protect people and not ideas. And it is dangerous
because it incentives religious outrage, and because Islamic States
led by Pakistan are already using the wording of this Irish law to
promote new blasphemy laws at UN level.

We believe in the golden rule: that we have a right to be treated
justly, and that we have a responsibility to treat other people
justly. Blasphemy laws are unjust: they silence people in order to
protect ideas. In a civilised society, people have a right to to
express and to hear ideas about religion even if other people find
those ideas to be outrageous.

Publication of 25 blasphemous quotes

In this context we now publish a list of 25 blasphemous quotes, which
have previously been published by or uttered by or attributed to Jesus
Christ, Muhammad, Mark Twain, Tom Lehrer, Randy Newman, James Kirkup,
Monty Python, Rev Ian Paisley, Conor Cruise O’Brien, Frank Zappa,
Salman Rushdie, Bjork, Amanda Donohoe, George Carlin, Paul Woodfull,
Jerry Springer the Opera, Tim Minchin, Richard Dawkins, Pope Benedict
XVI, Christopher Hitchens, PZ Myers, Ian O’Doherty, Cardinal Cormac
Murphy-O’Connor and Dermot Ahern.

Despite these quotes being abusive and insulting in relation to
matters held sacred by various religions, we unreservedly support the
right of these people to have published or uttered them, and we
unreservedly support the right of any Irish citizen to make comparable
statements about matters held sacred by any religion without fear of
being criminalised, and without having to prove to a court that a
reasonable person would find any particular value in the statement.

Campaign begins to repeal the Irish blasphemy law

We ask Fianna Fail and the Green Party to repeal their anachronistic
blasphemy law, as part of the revision of the Defamation Act that is
included within the Act. We ask them to hold a referendum to remove
the reference to blasphemy from the Irish Constitution.

We also ask all TDs and Senators to support a referendum to remove
references to God from the Irish Constitution, including the clauses
that prevent atheists from being appointed as President of Ireland or
as a Judge without swearing a religious oath asking God to direct them
in their work.

If you run a website, blog or other media publication, please feel
free to republish this statement and the list of quotes yourself, in
order to show your support for the campaign to repeal the Irish
blasphemy law and to promote a rational, ethical, secular Ireland.

List of 25 Blasphemous Quotes Published by Atheist Ireland

1. Jesus Christ, when asked if he was the son of God, in Matthew
26:64: “Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall
ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming
in the clouds of heaven.” According to the Christian Bible, the Jewish
chief priests and elders and council deemed this statement by Jesus to
be blasphemous, and they sentenced Jesus to death for saying it.

2. Jesus Christ, talking to Jews about their God, in John 8:44: “Ye
are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.
He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth,
because there is no truth in him.” This is one of several chapters in
the Christian Bible that can give a scriptural foundation to Christian
anti-Semitism. The first part of John 8, the story of “whoever is
without sin cast the first stone”, was not in the original version,
but was added centuries later. The original John 8 is a debate between
Jesus and some Jews. In brief, Jesus calls the Jews who disbelieve him
sons of the Devil, the Jews try to stone him, and Jesus runs away and
hides.

3. Muhammad, quoted in Hadith of Bukhari, Vol 1 Book 8 Hadith 427:
“May Allah curse the Jews and Christians for they built the places of
worship at the graves of their prophets.” This quote is attributed to
Muhammad on his death-bed as a warning to Muslims not to copy this
practice of the Jews and Christians. It is one of several passages in
the Koran and in Hadith that can give a scriptural foundation to
Islamic anti-Semitism, including the assertion in Sura 5:60 that Allah
cursed Jews and turned some of them into apes and swine.

4. Mark Twain, describing the Christian Bible in Letters from the
Earth, 1909: “Also it has another name - The Word of God. For the
Christian thinks every word of it was dictated by God. It is full of
interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some
blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of
obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies… But you notice that when
the Lord God of Heaven and Earth, adored Father of Man, goes to war,
there is no limit. He is totally without mercy - he, who is called the
Fountain of Mercy. He slays, slays, slays! All the men, all the
beasts, all the boys, all the babies; also all the women and all the
girls, except those that have not been deflowered. He makes no
distinction between innocent and guilty… What the insane Father
required was blood and misery; he was indifferent as to who furnished
it.” Twain’s book was published posthumously in 1939. His daughter,
Clara Clemens, at first objected to it being published, but later
changed her mind in 1960 when she believed that public opinion had
grown more tolerant of the expression of such ideas. That was half a
century before Fianna Fail and the Green Party imposed a new blasphemy
law on the people of Ireland.

5. Tom Lehrer, The Vatican Rag, 1963: “Get in line in that
processional, step into that small confessional. There, the guy who’s
got religion’ll tell you if your sin’s original. If it is, try playing
it safer, drink the wine and chew the wafer. Two, four, six, eight,
time to transubstantiate!”

6. Randy Newman, God’s Song, 1972: “And the Lord said: I burn down
your cities - how blind you must be. I take from you your children,
and you say how blessed are we. You all must be crazy to put your
faith in me. That’s why I love mankind.”

7. James Kirkup, The Love That Dares to Speak its Name, 1976: “While
they prepared the tomb I kept guard over him. His mother and the
Magdalen had gone to fetch clean linen to shroud his nakedness. I was
alone with him… I laid my lips around the tip of that great cock, the
instrument of our salvation, our eternal joy. The shaft, still
throbbed, anointed with death’s final ejaculation.” This extract is
from a poem that led to the last successful blasphemy prosecution in
Britain, when Denis Lemon was given a suspended prison sentence after
he published it in the now-defunct magazine Gay News. In 2002, a
public reading of the poem, on the steps of St. Martin-in-the-Fields
church in Trafalgar Square, failed to lead to any prosecution. In
2008, the British Parliament abolished the common law offences of
blasphemy and blasphemous libel.

8. Matthias, son of Deuteronomy of Gath, in Monty Python’s Life of
Brian, 1979: “Look, I had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife
was that piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah.”

9. Rev Ian Paisley MEP to the Pope in the European Parliament, 1988:
“I denounce you as the Antichrist.” Paisley’s website describes the
Antichrist as being “a liar, the true son of the father of lies, the
original liar from the beginning… he will imitate Christ, a diabolical
imitation, Satan transformed into an angel of light, which will
deceive the world.”

10. Conor Cruise O’Brien, 1989: “In the last century the Arab thinker
Jamal al-Afghani wrote: ‘Every Muslim is sick and his only remedy is
in the Koran.’ Unfortunately the sickness gets worse the more the
remedy is taken.”

11. Frank Zappa, 1989: “If you want to get together in any exclusive
situation and have people love you, fine - but to hang all this
desperate sociology on the idea of The Cloud-Guy who has The Big Book,
who knows if you’ve been bad or good - and cares about any of it - to
hang it all on that, folks, is the chimpanzee part of the brain
working.”

12. Salman Rushdie, 1990: “The idea of the sacred is quite simply one
of the most conservative notions in any culture, because it seeks to
turn other ideas - uncertainty, progress, change - into crimes.” In
1989, Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran issued a fatwa ordering Muslims to
kill Rushdie because of blasphemous passages in Rushdie’s novel The
Satanic Verses.

13. Bjork, 1995: “I do not believe in religion, but if I had to choose
one it would be Buddhism. It seems more livable, closer to men… I’ve
been reading about reincarnation, and the Buddhists say we come back
as animals and they refer to them as lesser beings. Well, animals
aren’t lesser beings, they’re just like us. So I say fuck the
Buddhists.”

14. Amanda Donohoe on her role in the Ken Russell movie Lair of the
White Worm, 1995: “Spitting on Christ was a great deal of fun. I can’t
embrace a male god who has persecuted female sexuality throughout the
ages, and that persecution still goes on today all over the world.”

15. George Carlin, 1999: “Religion easily has the greatest bullshit
story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced
people that there’s an invisible man living in the sky who watches
everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man
has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if
you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire
and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you
to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and
ever ’til the end of time! But He loves you. He loves you, and He
needs money! He always needs money! He’s all-powerful, all-perfect,
all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can’t handle money! Religion
takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need
a little more. Now, talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!”

16. Paul Woodfull as Ding Dong Denny O’Reilly, The Ballad of Jaysus
Christ, 2000: “He said me ma’s a virgin and sure no one disagreed,
Cause they knew a lad who walks on water’s handy with his feet… Jaysus
oh Jaysus, as cool as bleedin’ ice, With all the scrubbers in Israel
he could not be enticed, Jaysus oh Jaysus, it’s funny you never rode,
Cause it’s you I do be shoutin’ for each time I shoot me load.”

17. Jesus Christ, in Jerry Springer The Opera, 2003: “Actually, I’m a
bit gay.” In 2005, the Christian Institute tried to bring a
prosecution against the BBC for screening Jerry Springer the Opera,
but the UK courts refused to issue a summons.

18. Tim Minchin, Ten-foot Cock and a Few Hundred Virgins, 2005: “So
you’re gonna live in paradise, With a ten-foot cock and a few hundred
virgins, So you’re gonna sacrifice your life, For a shot at the
greener grass, And when the Lord comes down with his shiny rod of
judgment, He’s gonna kick my heathen ass.”

19. Richard Dawkins in The God Delusion, 2006: “The God of the Old
Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction:
jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a
vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic,
racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential,
megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.” In
2007 Turkish publisher Erol Karaaslan was charged with the crime of
insulting believers for publishing a Turkish translation of The God
Delusion. He was acquitted in 2008, but another charge was brought in
2009. Karaaslan told the court that “it is a right to criticise
religions and beliefs as part of the freedom of thought and
expression.”

20. Pope Benedict XVI quoting a 14th century Byzantine emperor, 2006:
“Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will
find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by
the sword the faith he preached.” This statement has already led to
both outrage and condemnation of the outrage. The Organisation of the
Islamic Conference, the world’s largest Muslim body, said it was a
“character assassination of the prophet Muhammad”. The Malaysian Prime
Minister said that “the Pope must not take lightly the spread of
outrage that has been created.” Pakistan’s foreign Ministry
spokesperson said that “anyone who describes Islam as a religion as
intolerant encourages violence”. The European Commission said that
“reactions which are disproportionate and which are tantamount to
rejecting freedom of speech are unacceptable.”

21. Christopher Hitchens in God is not Great, 2007: “There is some
question as to whether Islam is a separate religion at all… Islam when
examined is not much more than a rather obvious and ill-arranged set
of plagiarisms, helping itself from earlier books and traditions as
occasion appeared to require… It makes immense claims for itself,
invokes prostrate submission or ‘surrender’ as a maxim to its
adherents, and demands deference and respect from nonbelievers into
the bargain. There is nothing-absolutely nothing-in its teachings that
can even begin to justify such arrogance and presumption.”

22. PZ Myers, on the Roman Catholic communion host, 2008: “You would
not believe how many people are writing to me, insisting that these
horrible little crackers (they look like flattened bits of styrofoam)
are literally pieces of their god, and that this omnipotent being who
created the universe can actually be seriously harmed by some
third-rate liberal intellectual at a third-rate university… However,
inspired by an old woodcut of Jews stabbing the host, I thought of a
simple, quick thing to do: I pierced it with a rusty nail (I hope
Jesus’s tetanus shots are up to date). And then I simply threw it in
the trash, followed by the classic, decorative items of trash cans
everywhere, old coffeegrounds and a banana peel.”

23. Ian O’Doherty, 2009: “(If defamation of religion was illegal) it
would be a crime for me to say that the notion of transubstantiation
is so ridiculous that even a small child should be able to see the
insanity and utter physical impossibility of a piece of bread and some
wine somehow taking on corporeal form. It would be a crime for me to
say that Islam is a backward desert superstition that has no place in
modern, enlightened Europe and it would be a crime to point out that
Jewish settlers in Israel who believe they have a God given right to
take the land are, frankly, mad. All the above assertions will, no
doubt, offend someone or other.”

24. Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, 2009: “Whether a person is
atheist or any other, there is in fact in my view something not
totally human if they leave out the transcendent… we call it God… I
think that if you leave that out you are not fully human.” Because
atheism is not a religion, the Irish blasphemy law does not protect
atheists from abusive and insulting statements about their fundamental
beliefs. While atheists are not seeking such protection, we include
the statement here to point out that it is discriminatory that this
law does not hold all citizens equal.

25. Dermot Ahern, Irish Minister for Justice, introducing his
blasphemy law at an Oireachtas Justice Committee meeting, 2009, and
referring to comments made about him personally: “They are
blasphemous.” Deputy Pat Rabbitte replied: “Given the Minister’s
self-image, it could very well be that we are blaspheming,” and
Minister Ahern replied: “Deputy Rabbitte says that I am close to the
baby Jesus, I am so pure.” So here we have an Irish Justice Minister
joking about himself being blasphemed, at a parliamentary Justice
Committee discussing his own blasphemy law, that could make his own
jokes illegal.

Finally, as a bonus, Micheal Martin, Irish Minister for Foreign
Affairs, opposing attempts by Islamic States to make defamation of
religion a crime at UN level, 2009: “We believe that the concept of
defamation of religion is not consistent with the promotion and
protection of human rights. It can be used to justify arbitrary
limitations on, or the denial of, freedom of expression. Indeed,
Ireland considers that freedom of expression is a key and inherent
element in the manifestation of freedom of thought and conscience and
as such is complementary to freedom of religion or belief.” Just
months after Minister Martin made this comment, his colleague Dermot
Ahern introduced Ireland’s new blasphemy law.
